Gundam figures as we know either come made from plastic in the form of miniature figurines or metal in the case of the life size Gundam figure that used to stand in Odaiba, Tokyo (which has since been relocated to Shizuoka).
This 4-foot Freedom Gundam however, is neither made from plastic nor metal. It’s actually painstakingly made from paper by Taras Lesko, graphic designer and creative master. The thought of having to get this enormous papercraft Gundam model standing upright simply wows me.
Watch the video below to see how the papercraft Freedom Gundam was created:
There are only two types of clocks in this world, those that need batteries to run and those that do not. These bottle shaped water-powered clocks are the ones that fall into the latter category. Instead of drawing power from batteries, these colorful clocks draw power from water, the same water that you and I need to drink everyday.
An eco-friendly water-powered clock like one of these are definitely more convenient than conventional ones that run on batteries because all it needs for it to continue telling the time is to pop off its cap and top-up the water in the bottle when the water level gets low; which is great, especially for a lazy guy like me who hates to run to the store just to grab a pack of batteries for my gadgets.
Another good thing apart from the convenience is that you can even do something extra on your part for Earth by topping it up with collected rainwater in place of tap water.
Seasoned outdoor photographers usually have to endure different forms of weather such as waiting out a storm or travelling on different types of terrain just to get that perfect shot. Here’s a clever DSLR accessory that will help make all that a little less painful by protecting it from rain and dust on the go.
The zippable dustproof and waterproof transparent bag for DSLR cameras allows photographers to carry their cameras without the usual carrying case while protecting it from getting damaged by the elements. It also eliminates the hassle of having to remove the lens from the DSLR camera before you pack off and move to the next shooting location.
Another great thing is that you can shoot right from the bag without the need to take the camera out at all, making it even more convenient during photography sessions where there is chance of your camera getting in contact with water.
If you’re not willing to trust your precious DSLR camera to a cheap freezer bag then this waterproof and transparent bag looks to be a great protective accessory for your DSLR camera. 1,980 yen, Thanko Japan.
A little humor goes a long way, so give yourself or an unsuspecting computer user a laugh by attaching these computer keyboard key caps with funny labels on an existing computer keyboard. These funny novelty key caps come with labels such as ‘PANIC’, Oops!’ and ‘Any Key’ sure to snazz up any plain old looking keyboard.
Also, when the system prompts the user to ‘hit any key’ there is finally a key labelled ‘Any Key’ on the keyboard! Definitely eliminates any sort of confusion once and for all.
My favorite will have to be the ‘$’ key. Wouldn’t it be great if there was cash gushing out of the computer every time you hit this button?
A really cute video of the Star Wars AT-AT Walker that magically turns into the family pet ‘dog’ in this fantasy video titled “AT-AT Day Afternoon” by Patrick Boivin. After watching the video below, does anyone hope to get it as their pet too?
The unfortunate part is that there’s still need to clean up after the pet AT-AT Walker, for it pees hydraulic fluid and poops Jabba the Hutts wherever it wants to!
The iPhone 4 gets torn down to its bare components by the people at ifixit.
If you’re still not satisfied having the iPhone 4 only getting dismantled, probably watching it get blended into in a million pieces by Tom Dickson will do.
A really tasty-looking pizza pouch made for storing gadgets by Moma Store. I doubt it’ll help anyone get through till lunchtime though, looks like it only makes you hungry in-between. Hotdog, taco and cookie versions are also available.
Yep. It’s the official musical instrument for the 2010 South Africa World Cup, after it’s all over this vuvuzela is perhaps more useful for annoying your neighbors than anything else. Available at Amazon.
A cool hand-made wooden Super Mario coin box just like in Super Mario games. Great for storing stuff like coins and jewelry.
Yet another clever 3M innovation, a pop-up scotch tape dispenser that provides a constant supply of pre-cut scotch tapes. Eliminates the hassle of dealing with sticky scissors and cutters.
Boast to your friends that you use the iPad as a mouse pad. Technically that is, with the iMousepad.
Piano renditions of Super Mario music are quite common. Those performed with a violin are like rare gems. What makes this video of Super Mario played with the violin even more unique is that it was performed in real-time, though we can’t deny the possibility that it had been rehearsed.
This is apparently some serious motor oil for a serious Hello Kitty fan. Will you ever trust your car’s engine to the Hello Kitty engine oil?
What can you do with 300 bottle caps? Make an 8-bit stop motion video with them of course!
A cool house with everything made of paper. 100% paper.
It’s by far the most dreaded image any Twitter user will ever want to see when he/she visits the homepage. Yes, we’ll talking about the fail whale image. Well, someone made a Twitter fail whale cake. Dig in!
A bunch of TF2 characters recreated in 8-bit from perler beads by redditor Alexx17. Really nicely done.
A photographer’s worst nightmare is to have batteries run out in the middle of a photo shoot without any form of backup power. The problem of having your digital camera’s batteries run out during a photo-taking session may one day be averted with this creative idea, a camera strap solar battery charger!
A typical and indispensable accessory to the digital cameras like the camera strap is one of the perfect spots to fit a nice row of flexible solar panels. Being wrapped most of the time around the neck of the photographer also ensures the solar panels on the camera strap get a good and constant flow of solar power on a sunny day. Connected directly to the solar panels on the camera strap is the digital camera’s battery allowing the digital camera to be recharged passively in sunlight.
This design by Weng Jie makes it to my ‘hope-it-comes-out-soon’ list but we’ll probably have to wait for flexible solar panels to go mainstream before we start seeing stuff like this in the market.
This is a smart design for a portable office cubicle. If there’s a reason for an office worker to continuously move his office cubicle around then this will be the perfect way to do that in the most efficient manner.
The Kruikantoor by Tim Vinke is a clever transforming portable office cubicle consisting of two chairs, a table and shelf made of light polystyrene material which can be assembled into a wheelbarrow when its time to move. At the next destination, one just needs to disassemble the wheelbarrow and transform it into an office cubicle to start working immediately.
Here’s one of those clever disguises meant to act as a secondary defense for your precious belongings. This interesting design hides a metal safe within a hardcover book, and in this case an ordinary-looking dictionary.
On the outside it looks just like any other book one may own, but on the inside it contains a safe that you use to store your valuables. Definitely makes it harder for someone to deliberately pick it up and find a safe hidden inside! The more books you have on the shelf, the more diversions you create.
A safe can always be broken, the only difference is just how long it will take before one can get to your precious items. If you’re able to prolong the time it takes before your valuables get into the hands of unauthorized people, there is a higher chance of you getting them back.
The hidden safe in a book retails for $24.99 at Amazon.
For a computer user who needs a significant number input devices to perform different tasks, it can be quite a challenge to place them all on a single desk. The MagicBoard keyboard is one gadget able to act as any input device the user desires be it a keyboard, a musical keyboard or even the controls of a media player, eliminating the need to purchase new input devices once and for all.
This futuristic keyboard design by Eliel Cabrera replaces the conventional keyboard with a virtual touchscreen able to display different modes of input, allowing a user to switch from typing to playing the piano for example, with a simple gesture and without having to plug-in an additional device like a midi keyboard.
For games, the MagicBoard can be programmed to display custom buttons and layouts while accepting various gestures, adding yet another level of interactivity.
MagicBoard looks to be a great concept, and if it enters the market it should prove itself as a worthy peripheral for graphics designers and video editors; for gesture-input will surely provide a huge boost in productivity and efficiency.
A creative and cool design which projects the future of the indispensable computer keyboard, which has certainly come a long way since its introduction in the 70’s.
