Printed On Film — Speakers As Thin As Paper, As Transparent As Glass
You’re looking at a set of speakers that are printed on film. The very first time I glanced at the picture without reading, I was punished for assuming the speakers were in the hull of the boat. How ignorant could I get! Later I realised the speakers were actually the sails.
The sailboat designed speaker setup by FILS was presented at the 2007 FILS Film Speaker Design Contest. Made with a piezoelectric coating bonded with PVDF(Poly Vinylidene Fluoride), the speakers are printed on the film and they are capable of producing 2.1 channel sound in all directions and can be rolled up without any apparent damage.
