Universal USB 2.0 Drive Adaptor Connects To Any Hard Drive
Usually when one needs to add a hard drive to a system, in earlier times the casing of the PC has to be opened to do so. Not too long ago we have seen USB enclosures taking over the market. Even so, these enclosures do have a shortcoming — they only connect to a specific type of hard drive, an IDE or SATA connection.
With the NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Adaptor, almost any type of hard drive and even optical drives can be connected to the device and be able to interface with the PC via USB.
CNET Asia Crave has also reported that the device will debut at Macworld 2008 and will go for US$29.95 (S$42.86).

The USB2.0 Uni.Drive Adapter does not allow for power connection to 2.5inch drives, which means some external laptop-drives will not mount. Contrary to the Adapter’s Instructions, not all USB2.0 ports supply enough power required for drive functioning.
I, therefore, still use an external drive-carrier which independently powers the 2.5inch drive.

Perhaps there is an honest mistake here, but nowhere in the USB UDA’s operating manual does it say that all USB ports supply power for drive functioning. In fact, the manual doesn’t even mention that you can power a drive off a USB port.
However, we have had no problem doing so with our in house testing on MacBook/MacBook Pro notebooks. In fact, that’s how we were demoing the unit at Macworld Expo last week. Ran a 2.5 IDE straight off MB Pro USB port without needing the included power adapter.
No need for a drive carrier as we provide all the connectors need to power 2.5, 3.5, and 5.25 IDE/ATA and SATA drives with the included power adapter.
This was a best selling product at Macworld 2007 and with the enhanced design and LEDs, it should continue to be a popular item.
Thanks!
Wouldn’t power my 2.5 inch drive either. Maybe you should have tested more than one drive. Travelstar drive that I have requires twice the power the usb port supplies and your competitor has extra power supplied through thier usb adaptor. I returned mine.
